“I am Tyler Durden” – Narrator, Fight Club

As you’ve probably already figured out, I’m not, in fact, Tyler Durden. What I am is terrible at writing these pseudo-introductions and talking about myself to the general populace as is customary in this medium. But if you bear with me, I will try to make it as comfortable an experience as I can.

I am what my mother often called a músico, poeta y loco. Roughly translated, it’s a Spanish derivative of the phrase “Jack of all trades,” although the literal translation is not so forgiving (“musician, poet, and lunatic”) and assumes we’re referring only to a profession. In reality, she’d call me that because at any given time there are as many different things going on in my life as there are on stage at your favorite Cirque du Soleil show!

I’m a dynamic professional. A scientific thinker with a flair for the artistic and a passion for community. I can design a research study and write a poem about it; then document the process in an Oscar-worthy film to boot. Ok, that last part may be a bit of an exaggeration, but if we’re not proud of our own work, then is it worth doing in the first place?

So what exactly can you, dear reader, expect to take away from this blog? A little bit of this; a little bit of that (with quite a few references to cinema). A pick-me-up speech when you seem to need it most. A little encouragement to pursue your lifelong dreams; or to at least do the dishes. And of course, some gratuitous — ok, blatant — exposition of what I’m currently working on and how you can possibly get involved. And sometimes, just a distraction from reality, when reality bytes (you can always feel free to correct me, but before you do this time, I meant to spell it that way). 😉

So follow me, reader, and I know that together we can come one step closer to achieving a goal I set for myself not too long ago… to change the world, one random act of kindness at a time.
